Unless you want mastering to be a part of your creative process (I do) then you need someone else to master your track for their 'fresh ears'. I was always designed so someone who has never heard the track before could make the few small changes and then prepare the track for vinyl cutting. There isn't much to do if you plan to only digitally release it.
