Well I categorize music too. Sorta, lol
See, dubstep is like, wobble basses and epic/melodic drops and shit.
Electro is like, Idk. pop music but more electronic than pop music?
Breaks is like, chill stuff I guess
drum n bass is dubstep with more drums lol
house is pretty much the generic dance music
french house is like, idk. Why are there so many house sub genres
ambient is like chill ass shit. Soundscapes and pads and stuff, electronic music that's all about expressing emotion through sound design and
Trap is sticks hitting together or stab synths with really deep bass
As you can tell, I genre great lol
I'll attempt to give you a quick genre speed course by showing you the most obvious examples of certain genres I can find, lol.
Dubstep:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3I4cfOd-ZgU&t=60Dubstep is usually very aggressive, but as many artists have shown, calm dubstep (known as chillstep, even though the technical term is Liquid Dubstep) can also be made. The only requirements are that the tempo is 140BPM and that the beats hit on 2/2 instead of 4/4.
Electro:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQ9RlcdDkos&t=45Electro is mostly 128-132BPM with a normal 4/4 beat pattern. It is also a highly aggressive genre, and where Liquid Dubstep is a thing, Liquid Electro would not work as 128BPM Liquid is just Chill. Electro is fairly easy to separate from House as House is purely melodic.
Breaks:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wg8D7Bbm6TI&t=54I don't actually know too much about breaks as I don't listen to it. Your track directly reminded me of it, so I think it is breaks.
Drum 'n' Bass:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-T__qXRXXk&t=44Drum 'n' Bass is a very wide spectrum with many sub genres. DnB is generally at 174BPM and uses a
"kick snare kicksnare" drum pattern. Other drum patterns are allowed though. Liquid DnB is also a thing.
House is indeed generic 128BPM melodic dance music.
French House is pretty much Nu-Disco, which can only be explained by listening to it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhGtxxx ... w7r0d&t=80Ambient is meant as background, as if it would be used in a movie scene.
Trap:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S32WBfuxr0E&t=41Trap is basically fast-fading subby EDM music. You'll know it when you hear it.
There are many other genres I could explain, but that would take too much of my time.
