No Strings Attached (Octavia Battle Theme)

Postby Stars In Autumn » 06 Jul 2011 01:10

Here's going to be my entry into Sci's competition:

It seems pretty close to being done. Organ-y synth sounds too close. I have a hard time mixing still. Hopefully Makkon comes in here, he's pretty good in this genre.

First time using Kontakt and that thing is amazing. All the strings except the contrabass and most of the percussion are from Kontakt libraries.

Please let me know what you think and give any suggestions!

Thanks,

Daaaaaaamn...the competition for this keeps getting better and better! At this rate, I stand no chance! :P
This is actually really good! Like, really good! And those Kontakt libraries sound awesome!

Really nice, I especially like the way that the more mellow synth (the one at :40) works with the rest of the piece.
Still figuring out the whole music production thing.
Currently unnamed, feel free to call me what you want.

I like it. Since it is supposed to be about octavia, I would have expected to hear more melody in the bass line, but this song works regardless.

*takes deep breath*...AWESOME!!!!!!!!
I really like the use of the higher register strings. Even though Octavia plays the cello but w/e. And that melody that begins at 1:30 is absolutely divine. I'm afraid I'm not one suited for critiquing however, being not that much of an expert myself. So I'll let the big bronies(lol) handle that.
How/where do I join this competition? I've been writing a Pinkie Pie battle theme for some time now and I'd love to show it off c:

It's in the "Challenges, Contests and Events" board, under "Toast Beard Compo General":

Hah, yeah, I know. I'm not sure how to incorporate a melody bass line in a song that's suppose to be a battle theme. The cello is there but it's more of a supporting instrument.

Thanks for the positive comments!

Well, it's done. I plan on submitting it to Sci's post once it's back up. I'll probably see if Seth will post it as well as put it on Celestia Radio. My soundcloud link has been updated with my final version.

Thanks for taking a listen all.
