Maretroid Prime (Update v0.2)

So, I've been playing with some new vsts!

Besides the distorted MLP sample, everything in here is from a vst set called "The Dark Side" by EastWest...they're amazing and the interface is one of the coolest I've seen!

But anyway, the moment I heard "Toxic Choir 1 Wide" I knew I had to make something reminiscent of Metroid Prime's Soundtrack, as it sounded exactly like the distorted choir samples used in that!

So, PLEAAASE give feedback as this is new territory musically for me! I rarely have so much repetition in one place!

Also, it's obviously not finished, not by a longshot! :P

This is really cool, definitely fills my head with the same sort of atmosphere that metroid prime's music creates.

Looking forward to seeing this one finished.

I'm so jelly.

As for the song, it is very much like Metriod. I want to hear the full version.

Edit for actual critique:

I feel that the way this song plays at the beginning (0:00-1:10) it seems like a massive buildup, but in turn goes soft. I know that's how Metriod music is, but with the way the song starts I feel like it to explode. Maybe have those drums breakout harder plus heavier and get a totally sinister lead going everywhere. Keep in mind however, I like my music to always do that, so go with what you think is best.

Holy shit this is really sexy. The only Metroid thing I'm familiar with is good old Kraid's Lair, though.

The synth starting at around 1:27 begs to be a little louder.

Thanks everyone for the tips, I shall bare them all in mind!!!

I suppose that's what it was...but in this vst set, it's called "Perc Sci-fi" and that echoing sound that goes with it is part of the same vst!
However, there is a Hang Drum vst in the "Stormdrum 2" set, if you want to look that up!

UPDATE TO v0.2!
http://soundcloud.com/drdissonance1/maretroid-prime-wip-v0-2

So yeah, lots of new things in there...for some reason, I figured making some random audio logs of Twilight would be fun...how wrong I was!

Feedback hugely encouraged, as this is a lot more repetition than I usually like! TELL ME WHAT'S WRONG!

Except for:

I think it still needs to be a little louder after tweaking the settings a bit!

I really like it. After 3:20 though, and before the synth lead starts moving more, the synth lead could be more on the beat. If you are going for the Metroid thing becuase the melodies in Metroid tend to be pretty "on" beat.

On the other handyhoof I think that this has great atmosphere. That snare sound though bothers me for some reason... something just feels rhythmically off with the drums and the synths a points and I don't know what is causing it or what it is.

Until then, it's intentional and it really made me feel uneasy (which, is of course, the Metroid mission!)

so until next time!

Cheers! You have a good ear for the drums because:

a) Sibelius screws up the rhythm of the drums for some reason when exporting the MIDI...I think it's something to do with the 'expression' settings, so I'll look into that...

b) All the drums are distorted! I'm using nothing but vst's from The Dark Side Set and pony samples/other samples and all the drumkits in The Dark Side are distorted to some degree...:P
I quite like the distorted drums though, so they'll probably be staying!

And Metroid themes tend to be on the beat, you're right! Which is annoying, because that's the opposite of me! :P

Cheers for the feedback!
