SO HIPPITY HOP!

I loved it, the movement from something relatively normal, decaying into dissonance and back again, really worked well!

DO MORE MOVEMENTS!!!

Loved that one too!
How well was this received? I know there was clapping at the end, but what were people's reactions?

I think people liked it -- much of the rest of the programme was dreck, imho. But most people aren't used to this sort of music, so it's hard to tell what most really thought.

Most people "got" Mvmnt 4, especially the cheesy quote, and a lot of people responded to the powerful sections of Mvmnt 5 -- certainly bolder than most of the stuff played that night. What's your response? I'm not especially knowledgeable about Webernian pointillism, but I think the little cells in this particular piece hang together alright.

I'll post Movements 1-3 when I find the disc they're on -- Mvmts 1-3 were performed Fall 2010, and 4-5 were performed in Spring 2011 by a different pianist... wonder if they'll still hang together...

Well, I thought it was good! It's very easy to write something twelve tone that, theory-wise, is very good, but listening to it is a chore...
That was not the case here, it was still very listenable, so I applaud you for not falling in that trap!

Awesome.

My personal favorite 12-tone piece is by the rock group Henry Cow. VERY expressive & catchy despite its dodecaphonic nature (predictably, Alban Berg is my favorite from the 2nd Viennese School).

This is the piece I'm talkin' bout. It starts at 16:35:

I LOVE this group.
