But I like the idea. Here's something I'm working on:

http://soundcloud.com/dissorder/preview-struggle-for-existence

But I've been into hardstyle music for about 10 years now (which back then just really started out as harder/darker techno and hardtrance), and I think I've got the hang of producing it... So if you guys need some tips and advice on kicks etc. just gimme a ring on Skype. :)

My skype username is Patroontje.

Nice work! I like the track, and how it breaks the guidelines of hardstyle always being 150bpm. Also thanks for the advice, I may take you up on that skype call. (this is half of Manehunterz btw)

I guess 130 is fine, but 160-175 is pushing it. It's gabber at that point. Also I thought the base tempo for hardstyle was 140? (That's why dubstyle can exist)

It turns out I'm a real ass when it comes to BPMs.

Dude... Hardstyle is 150bpm, like, 99% of the time. the intro, mid-intro, first break and outro of my track are 150bpm too, it's just the first and 2nd climax that's different.

And no, 130bpm is NOT fine for hardstyle. Except in some rare cases or exceptions, just like 175bpm is fine in this case... 130bpm is ok for house and trance (although house is mostly 128?)

But about hardstyle, most dj's play the tracks faster than 150bpm anyway, but the standard tempo for producing hardstyle is 150. It was lower 10 years ago, but those days are pretty much over. :P

Here is a hardstyle track that's over 10 years old, and obviously slower than 150bpm (138). But still Hardstyle:

So I found this little Hardstyle edit of Smile I made when that episode came out somewhere late last year/early this year(?). I forgot about it, but it sure made ME smile. :P I remember tossing it around on the Dutch brony irc's and forums... and played it at meets... people were mad. It was funny.

At the time I already made that kick before I started working on this edit. My kick design is much better now, but I guess it suffices. :P

Enjoy: DEMONIC PINKIE!

EDIT: XXDarkShadow79XX btw, most Dubstyle I know is 150bpm as well...

Read closely please... ;)

130bpm is just too slow to dance to for hardstyle. The only 2 tracks I know that actually have a pretty long part around 130 or slower that are hardstyle are Headhunterz' remix of Hardwell - Spaceman and some track by Noisecontrollers.

99% of the tracks are 150bpm and have been so for many years.

150 BPM is indeed the default and most used BPM for hardstyle

But 130 BPM ? Nah, there isn't hardstyle with 130 BPM, the only tracks that DOES have that BPM, are only at this speed at some part of the song, mostly mid-intro. That is, from all the hardstyle i've listened so far

So kinda like Diss Order said, Hardwell - Spaceman (Headhunterz remix) have that slow BPM, but it's only during the intro, as i said above. the rest of the song is around 150 BPM, kinda like these two :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7VD8Cj8ZXQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hV2yn40Sv6Y

And like the Hardwell remix, it's during the intro~mid-intro

As for the higher than 170 BPM, i hardly think that any hardstyle song BPM ranges here.

The fastest i heard are like 165~170 BPM, and they aren't original mix, they are live mix.

Examples : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBUatjjILYI
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZED6WUGdXDo

(Btw, trance generator is epic. =P)

But full tracks with a main bpm slow than 140 BPM, or higher than 160... that would be mostly oldschool hardstyle to me.

Except for that one, which is kinda Hardstyle/Hardcore :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDcdLXSLqyw

Also Diss, nice edit of smile. xD But your kick sounds a lot influenced by gabber/hardcore. Amiwrong? :v

We may chat on skype, there's a few things i would like to ask you, if that doesn't bother you.

By the way, what DAW/Sequencer do you use?

I use FL because I like its UI. :) I use 3xOsc for nearly everything nowadays, except for kicks. I use Drumazon 909 bassdrums for those. And the kick in my Smile mix is actually more of a Tekstyle kick. The kick I used for Struggle For Existence is indeed a bit of a hardcore-ish kick, but it works at 150bpm too. Guys like Crypsis and Radical Redemption also make kicks like that for Hardstyle. Here's my kick at 150bpm during the mid-intro in an earlier phase of development on the remix (not mixed an mastered, so it might sound a little crappy):
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/11909930/music ... eview2.mp3

By the way, Kings of the Underground - Gunz For Hire and Eternalize - Headhunterz also have faster climaxes, and those are very recent records. 2 Years ago Wild Motherfuckers also released The BPM Track which ranges from 140 to 200bpm. And Zany has released a track on his new album called Underwater, which also has Tekstyle kick and a bpm of approximately 145 (didn't check it):

I'm kind of tired always having 150bpm hardstyle tracks to be honest. Nowadays I just use a bpm that works best for the mood and feel of a track. That could be 138 for a revbass oldskoolish track or 155~160 for a harder hardstyle track that would usually be played near the end of the night.

Pretty much the only reason why people are using standardized bpm's is so they don't have to worry about different bpm's when beatmatching as a DJ. And I'm not willing to modify my music just so lazy DJ's can mix it better...

FLstudio ? heh, same here. Altho 3xOsc ? I don't think that something you should rely on, i mean, it's powerful, good, you can do lot of things with it, but there's better. xD

If you want good synths for example, there's various VSTs like Nexus, Sylenth1, Zebra, or hell, even sytrus.

But if it's your way for producing, you can do whatever you want i guess.

I never said it doesn't work. Still, your kick sounds more hardcoreish to me. :v
Not that i mind, it's good, and hardstyle kick are really a pain to do.

Diss Order wrote:Eternalize - Headhunterz also have faster climaxes, and those are very recent records.

However, this isn't the main BPM of the song, it's just "a part".

Although that track from Zany... doesn't really sounds like hardstyle to me... But that's just me, i'm just not used to that kind of hardstyle, and i wouldn't listen to it everyday for sure.

I do agree about the 150BPM part, and i tend to prefer higher BPMs than that, kinda like the original mix of "Spin that record vinyl scratch", And a mix (not original one, probably a live) i found of "A² Allstars - the resistance", which was kinda faster, but somehow i can't find it again. (But i managed to make the original mix sounds almost the same.)

Here's my hardstyle kick, still in progress (especially the pitching, which i can't really do yet)

http://soundcloud.com/diceofficial/kick-is-becoming-decent

Made it with Microtonic, and a sh*t tons of other effect plugins.

Wat.

I like starting out with simple waveforms and reshaping/EQing/distorting/automating them into awesome sounds. It teaches you things about sound design as well. Hardmode: ON.

Well, that's what i've been told, that Nexus (or maybe Nexus² ? But i'm assuming that's the same VST) is good.

Tho if you listen to the sounds made by Manuel Shleiss with Nexus², there's some really good stuff in here.

"Sounds made in Nexus" "People told me Nexus is good"

Nexus is for lazy people who wanna skip the sound design part of music production and still have leads that sound sort-of decent without having to spend any effort on it.

Huh ? But it's a synthetizer generator plugin like any other, you can start out with a saw lead and just make a synth out of it. The lazy peoples aren't the peoples who use nexus, they are the peoples who use presets, patches, etc...

The link i sent was just to show what nexus can do, which is actually decent.

No. You can't make sounds in nexus. You can only edit presets (minor edits, at that) that they give you. They have a VERY select few people who work for the company to release these packs of more presets, it's how they make their money.

It's been a day or so since I checked this thread... It looks like people have stopped submitting. I really hope this doesn't die. I wanted to be able to get a few Ponytraxx tracks into the next Balloon Party... (Balloon Party needs more hardstyle) And, I am working on a new track... Just as I said before, schoolwork is piled on me. Almost the end of the quarter and I'm buried. Trying as hard as I can. I really want this to get bigger and become something in the fandom.

P-Dance is a parody of Q-Dance... The largest organization in Hardstyle. Also P stands for pony. XD

Hah, this is more hardcore than hardstyle, but I still feel like sharing it...

So I was watching the Flim and Flam episode with a few bronies this Friday, and I felt like bucking it up. xD

How do you guys like my crunchy hardcore kick? :P

Um, I...

Eehhhh.

I'd show off my definition of a "crunchy hardcore kick" here, but alas, a certain superstorm tore through my eastern region of the U.S. leaving me at my grandmother's house typing this on an IPhone 4 whilst my hometown freezes without power, as they have for the past week.
