Ok, I'm gonna be honest. The ONLY reason I want to try this out is because I'm starting to get sick of hardstyle. IT ALL SOUNDS THE SAME. I'm subscribed to TheLegendaryUploadzz and about 90% of the hardstyle tracks he's uploaded in the past 4-5 months have that same stupid (Weak) ass springy "kick" piece of crap. (Although lately it's been ok)

Observe:

And then there's the STRUCTURE. OH GOD. It's more redundant than the structure of dubstep! (Which isn't saying much considering there's a lot of creative dubstep out there, but still) It starts out with a squeaky, repetitive synth, then a breakdown, then the same kick with a melody, though my examples above kind of contradict this. Still, it's just... boring.

Look, I freaking love hardstyle. I love Headhunterz, Atmozfears, Noisecontrollers, you name it. Hell, I freaking learned how to shuffle just for the hell of it. But hardstyle is really starting to bore me. It really is.

Hey DarkShadow I'd recommend you to listen to some less "mainstream" scantraxx stuff.

Some great labels

http://www.youtube.com/user/tilltrecords - If you thought Zatox was hard I'd recommend staying away from this label.

http://www.youtube.com/user/4V10/ - Alphaverb has a really unique style, some of the recent stuff isn't that unique but be sure to browse some of the older stuff on there as well. Thunderstyle being a personal favorite of mine.

http://www.youtube.com/user/djthera - Early hardstyle, not everyone's cup of tea but it's definitely fresh compared to most modern stuff

http://www.youtube.com/user/fusionofsoundnl - Fusion has some of the most unique hardstyle, Zany and Michel Pollen are definitely pioneers in the genre.

http://www.youtube.com/user/KeepItUpMusic - Frontliners new label is looking great so far, phaserific is the shit.

http://www.youtube.com/user/FrancescoZetaDJ - Also Francesco Zeta needs way more love, seriously.

Thanks icky. :)

The thing is, I love mainstream hardstyle. My issue is that it's all too damn repetitive. I've actually never really gotten into hardstyle, and I've never really wanted to. But recently I've just been noticing a major decline in originality recently. Take a look at dubstep right now. If you look at some of Ukf or darkstepwarrior's recent uploads, you'll see that dubstep is still thriving and original. Hardstyle can be immensely original, but these producers are practically choosing not to be. That damn springy kick just really freaking pisses me off. If hardstyle is supposed to be based around the kick, then why do people want to use the SAME DAMN ONE EVERY TIME?

Speaking of kicks, does this sound ok?

https://dl.dropbox.com/s/amj0b4luh3sxzj ... 20Loop.wav

Yep, thats only one kick and a hell of a lot of distortion. I haven't added a sub yet, but is this kick cool sounding?

I can agree with you partly, I love the stuff that comes out of a2 records, the more raw stuff. I do love Heady and the Scantraxx crew, (plus Fusion, Dirty Works, etc.) but, yeah. The structure has been this way and it kinda always be... Jussayin. Yes they could have a little variation in the kick and do some experimenting. They could try to be original and not copy everyone's kicks, but yaknow, it happens.

Hi Icky! I love Frontliner, can't wait who he's going to sign to his label! It would be cool if you made a track for us... Either that or release the version of Hmm Nah without Spry's cowbell... XD

Turn down your distortion alot... This would be suitable for a Hardcore kick, but even then you would need to lower distortion.

Hey, Dice here, A.K.A the other DJ/producer from Manehunterz.
Wanted to say something here, since i'm kinda... concerned by this thread. 9_6
I'm not going to tell my life, just that i'm basically french, 15 years old, have been totally into hardstyle for many years and use FL as a DAW. :v

Dub shifterzz wrote:Here is my Hardstyle remix of WoodenToaster - Rainbow Factory. Feedback is always welcome :)

Nice track, loving the Dubstyle flavor !

RoyalPony5003 wrote:here's a hardstyle track i have worked on since like for the past 2 months. royalpony- beyond darkness.

Nice, although... is that "Headhunterz - Subsonic (hardbass edit)"'s kick that i'm hearing ? We might want to avoid ripped kicks.

As for BronyChips, Ninevolt & Darkshadow, i guess that pretty much everything as been said, cool tracks, but these kicks needs work. ;)

Icky wrote:http://www.youtube.com/user/tilltrecords - If you thought Zatox was hard I'd recommend staying away from this label.

Mh... I like nitrouz & Chris one, but hey, if you want some RAW hardstyle, what about Theracord ? =P (They seems more rawstyle than oldschool/early to me... but i guess it does have an "early" feeling, probably because all the track i have listened here were stuctured like rawstyle)

They have some really brutal stuff here, although, it's a bit... special, and not for everyone.
Well, i still like both Theracord and Zatox (he is definitely not the hardest of the scene, but he does have good tracks)

I would suggest Trance generator for something more oldschool,
But some of the nu-style artists did great track in this "subgenre" (honestly, i don't really like dividing hardstyle into various genre like "rawstyle" "nu-style" "earlystyle". Just hardstyle to me.) aswell, such as, deepack (And the almighty qlimax anthem, "The Prophecy"), high voltage, or even zany, etc...

Otherwise, like DJ Mischief said, a² records can release some epic tracks... Others artists like Technoboy & Tuneboy, Code black, The R3belz, Scope DJ, Toneshifterz (Go check out his earlystylish track with nitrouz : "Tha Bidniz", honestly, it's worth it) got really good stuff too, for example. (There's, of course, plenty of others good DJs that i didn't take the time to mention.)

I kind of agree with that, plus all these remix of mainstream/pop/dancefloor tends to annoy me.

Well now, all i can say is, thank you all for participating, and i hope that we can make something really good out of this project !

Ya I'm not used to making the kick tone of hardstyle. I've always been more of a hardcore/gabber kind of guy.

P.S. I used Tridirt and camelcrusher. No ohmicide here. (Cuz I cheap)

Sounds good,

This kick may need a bit of reverb, some more EQing, eventually fattening it a bit ? (Sausage fattener is a good plugin for that). I mean, the non-pitched kick may need that bass you hear in the pitched one, that would probably make it sounds better.

The beggining sounds more like Hands Up to me tho, i would recommend making that reverse bass more agressive. You could also try to put this clap every step, instead of every two steps, see if it sounds better, that will probably sounds less like hands up. You could also use a snare for the build up, rather than using the kick's punch.

After that, just need to improve mastering/mixdown, but that's something that will come eventually while keeping on producing.

That's all i can give right now for constructive criticism.

Manehunterz: That kick in the OP needs some work, the overall mix could use some EQ'ing and some polishing, the vocals could be synced with the mix a little more, etc.

But I like the idea. Here's something I'm working on:

http://soundcloud.com/dissorder/preview-struggle-for-existence

But I've been into hardstyle music for about 10 years now (which back then just really started out as harder/darker techno and hardtrance), and I think I've got the hang of producing it... So if you guys need some tips and advice on kicks etc. just gimme a ring on Skype. :)

It's funny how these guys managed to write a whole paragraph about me without me even knowing them.

Me being active in EDM for years? Uhh, active how? Listening/going to gigs/being involved? Yes. Especially Hardstyle and Trance. Lots of artists you guys adore and worship, I spoke and shaked hands with... But actually active as a producer? Uhh... Since 2011 officially.

Me being pretty active on MLR (or Soundcloud for that matter?)... Hah, really? :P I visit this place about bi-monthly. :P

They're right about me embracing Hardstyle though. As silly as it might sound, it's music that just warms my heart. :) Not in a very sentimental way... well, perhaps indirectly, but I guess it gives me some joy and fun in life. In every-day life I'm usually a very passive person to be around, very drawn-back... and hardstyle music (especially gigs) is great music for me to get wild to, just have some fun and actually enjoy life a bit. :)

Nice work! I like the track, and how it breaks the guidelines of hardstyle always being 150bpm. Also thanks for the advice, I may take you up on that skype call. (this is half of Manehunterz btw)

I guess 130 is fine, but 160-175 is pushing it. It's gabber at that point. Also I thought the base tempo for hardstyle was 140? (That's why dubstyle can exist)

It turns out I'm a real ass when it comes to BPMs.
