Remix War Sync Party
Too much fixing for one day.

We're getting close to the deadline, so I hope all is going well! As a reminder, submission of entries close at 11am PDT! I'll be busy building the playlists afterwards so you don't want to miss the deadline!

We will be splitting the sync listens into a probable of 4 days. There are a total of 234 participants in this remix war, a huge number and impossible to fit all that music in a single listen. I'm estimating we'll have 4-6 hour sync listens for 4 days with short intermission breaks midway through.

The first sync party will be held on Saturday, September 1st at 1pm PDT (UTC-07:00). This means it will start at 1PM on the west coast, 2pm Mountain daylight time, 3pm Central, 4pm Eastern, 8pm in the UK, and between 4-6 am Australian (Haha, sorry guys!) This gives people in the UK enough time to view the sync listen. Each subsequent sync party will be held Sunday, September 2nd, and then the other two will be held the next weekend on the 8th and 9th, all starting at 1pm PDT as well.

UPDATE: All submitted entries can be downloaded as a torrent here. Special thanks to Sellyme and Lodestone for helping me normalize all the song and artist names to be consistent!
UPDATE: The torrent was updated with a fixed tag and a missed song!

Sunday the 9th, party will start at 1pm PDT.

Playlist Order: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... UdjNGo2ZWc

If you have any questions or concern, let me know!

The last time synchtube didn't work. That was quite a force majeure. We should have a backup plan for synclisten party.

Yes, I remember Circuit's great Cookie Genocide. A backup would be ideal.

Oops. Yeah, my countdown was wrong.

But your clock is wrong for Europe anyways. Mine should be correct for everybody now.

Edit: My post is fixed now. Just changed hour in the url to the correct one.

these time zone conversions are all wrong >_<

after a careful reading, here's what I've come up with:
the sync starts at 1pm PDT, which is actually 9pm UTC
(and UTC = brit time)

phaux's corrected countdown is accurate now.

The new series of Doctor Who starts on Saturday at 7:15pm GMT, so I might miss the beginning of the first synch. But no worries, mate.

Good point. Does anyone know of another good site for this? Livestream might work, but I think it streams lower quality audio and doesn't allow for a playlist, just screen sharing, correct?

You might be able to stream the videos on Livestream by doing this, but I'm not sure how effective it is since I haven't used Livestream in forever.
I like to think I'm well-rounded because I'm not really good at anything.

I'm sorry man. Between a 4 hour window in America, the UK, and Australia, I had to pick a horrible time for one group, and from everyone I know on MLR, it seems like it negatively impacts the least amount of people by starting it at 1pm PDT. Just set your alarm clock super early and get plenty of sleep :p

The good news is a post will be made on EqD shortly before the listen so we should have folk outside MLR joining in!

oh shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii----------

ok so uh
just assuming we only invite the musicians, a really quick and dirty count says that'd be close to 200 people in the same room. (242 exactly, but that's very likely an overestimate)
(that was calculated by typing "javascript:alert(document.getElementsByTagName("tbody")[2].getElementsByTagName("tr").length)" into the address bar when on this page. for the record.)

I HONESTLY DON'T THINK SYNCTUBE'S CHAT COULD KEEP UP.

of course, IRC is the best (most stable) option, but even then. Even with half of that count. That's a lot to pay attention to.

I'm not sure if extra spectators from EqD would be a good idea.

this

1.) too many spectators at once -> too much activity in the chatroom -> hard to keep up.
2.) adding eqd non-musicians to the chatroom -> lower musician to nonmusician ratio -> lower amount of constructive feedback per page of chat
3.) non musicians in the chatroom -> hopes to talk with a famous brony -> steven magnet
on the other hand

1.) MOAR people who will listen to your music -> more popularity
2.) MOAR people who you can talk to -> CONNECTIONS, DAWG

Uh, hold on, we ARE on British summer time at the moment, which is UTC +1.
SO
1pm PDT = 9pm BST
wait
what?
Oh. I see. Yeah, 9pm Brit time, but it's BST not UTC. 'kay.

How did we run the launch of Seeds of Kindness again? because that worked out pretty well.

Perhaps do something similar?

- Setup a livestream that can handle the viewer traffic, that everybody can listen to.
- Have a separate IRC chat for musicians to talk to eachother, and use the livestream chat to chat with viewers from EqD.

All of this. As elitist as it may sound, we should keep the sync listens musicians only.
