I shouldn't be too ambitious. I'm tired after the guitar things. I'm going to do it starting now and use the MPD pads- let's see what happens. *zip!*

Don't worry. you went over by about 1 minute. Some people on the original thread did much worse, going over by 6-7 minutes. Can't wait to hear it!

I swear, that sample is from an airplane videogame set I randomly pulled up, and it says 'MINIMUM' something. I didn't mean to make it say 'enema! enema! enema! enema!'

Haha! This was a fun thread to be a part of, even though I didn't participate :/ Wish I did.

Anyway, I'd like to do something for this. I'll probably do it later and post it up.

Welp, seeing as I was part of the group that started this whole mess, I decided to make my own speed-piece as well. I managed to complete it in 28 minutes and 53.358 seconds, which, by my standards, is lightning-fast. It's a tad bit short, but I didn't want to make it any more repetitive than it already is.

Oh, and the title is "Running Out Of Time", which is both fitting for the song itself and the circumstances under which I wrote it.

That's some epic distortion there, mate. Some may say a bit too much ^ ^;

Still sounds pretty cool.

I feel like my 30-minute stuff sucks in comparison to everyone else's. I really need to work with my DAW more, LOL.

My DAW (Logic) isn't as strong as it could be for tracker-like stuff and takes some work to do the crazy choppy juxtaposing stuff, so I'm really weak on that- but it does have terrific facilities for making elaborate templates, and I used that heavily. The 2-buss alone on that track was like eight plugins that have all been set up over hours of tweaking- I'm just tracking straight into that stuff, and pulling up preset channel strip items or clicking over to channel strips that already had a dubstep wub synth set up on them. Drums, same- dedicated kick/snare/cymbal channels already set up in advance. It's like what the guy in the "all electronic musicians should listen to this guy" thread talks about. I totally do the daysession/nightsession thing, so I knew the 30 minute track would be able to draw on a very complete mix that I'd just not bother to tweak for the track.

I just threw stuff together and didn't even listen to the last changes, just bounced and ran. I guess that's why you do the night session stuff :)

I'll make one next Saturday if I can. I just can't seem to come up with a chord progression. Is it ok to have one in mind before I start recording?

NO. YOU MUST CODE YOUR DAW FROM SCRATCH AND THEN INVENT EACH NOTE

hehehe... seeing as some of the point is doing the mechanics of a production, I cheated much worse'n that (or would have, if I didn't already work that way)

I don't see why not. Surely it's going to be kind of personal for each pony depending on what you're used to? Maybe the challenge is mostly about 'do a track as you would normally do it, but super fast rather than fussing and hesitating'.

I had two different lengths of loops going- the hats and the rimshots are quite short loops but they don't coincide very often. I've always done stuff like that. One thing I did was track quick synth stuff listening to one of those loops, and then loop that, so there would be more of a clue to what was happenin'. LOTS of 'quickly play something in and then loop it' which I think I like. I think electronic-wise I owe so much to old Tangerine Dream, that there's no point me getting into chopped-up stuff, I love the gloopy evolving stuff (and also jungle/DnB beats).

Hence, lightning track had to be what I liked most because I'm most at home with it :)

I should do that more often. I should do that EVERY DAY

Hey, I HATED my own stuff when I was just starting. I'm too ashamed to post my 10+ first songs because of how much they sucked. But tht hatred made me force myself to get better, and now I'm better. I still find myself thinking I suck a lot, but it makes me improve, so I'm fine with it.

Ha! So true.

I might give this a shot. Either this will be so bad it's good, or I'll surprise myself and actually make something half-decent. Win-win, I guess.

EDIT:

http://soundcloud.com/blindbaker-1/30-minute-challenge

Aha... Well, I tried. Not sure on the exact time, but I think it took me around 24-25 minutes. As mediocre as it turned out, I had a lot of fun with it. I should do this more often.

This sounds fun! There's no deadline or timeline it looks like, so I'll probably put something up 'ere pretty soon.

30 minutes.

I may revisit this in the future and create a good song off these loops, but I'm pretty happy atm.

There you go. This is as far as I could go with this.

I would have come back with a guitar, but Kyoga already wins everything, so yeah.

These tracks are fun to make and you can always master/remix them and turn them into actual songs afterwards.
I'll be sure to make another one of these tracks, soon.
