Community Collaborative Noise Project FOR ALL TO JOIN IN

Postby MixMastaCopyCat » 18 Jan 2012 22:38

Hello, My Little Remix. I have a proposition. Join me on my project. It is a noise project. I want as many people as possible to join in. Well, to be honest, I want EVERYONE to join in.

Here's all you have to do:

Create the noise. I mean noise in it's most literal term. It can be anything. Literally anything that gives off sound. Protip: Aim for something weird, if you can (or want, it's up to you!). You can create this noise by any means necessary: recording vocals and/or acoustic noises, synthesis, effects, arrangements, etc. It can be anything. You can also make it as long as you want. It can be anywhere from 1 second, to 1 minute, to 1 hour... I don't care. Make it AS LONG AS YOU WANT. Leave the problem of putting it out to me and others. (unless you can help with that!)

Render the noise, and post a link for download. I will then download it, add your name to an extensive list of collaborators, and mix it into this project.

Share it with other brony musicians. Refer to this thread. I want to get everybody in on this. Yes, I am going to try and get big names in on it. But it'd be easier if I have more people with me.

So, why am I doing this? Because of the fact that this is music at it's most virgin state. Noise. Organized sounds that appeal to the abstract process of thought. It's also such a powerful idea. I mean, a large hive-mind of artistic ideas squashed together to create a nexus of music. It makes you feel like you're sewing together the musician community.

Now, I've never done anything like this before. But that's the beauty of noise. You don't even have to try hard. Or you can. Just make it something audible. Anything.

I promise, this is going to be great, guys, and tons of fun.

As a musician, I'm not exactly sure I agree. There is a big difference between noise and music.

I guess that it could be done, but it will have to be done exceptionally well. I'll see if I can find a musical sound lying around.

Noise is sound.

Music is "humanly organised sound" (quote from John Blacking, a good man!)

I will make some hideous sounds...

I was bored the other day and I stacked a whole bunch of different delays with infinite decay times together creating this monstrosity. Note: I just hit middle C using a piano sound and let the effect do the rest :P
It just keeps going on and on and on and on....

Well noise is an actual music genre (or stuff that some argue doesn't fit in music conventionally) and I'm glad to see that some Brony musicians are somewhat interested in doing something in that direction as I haven't seen much. I've done some of that style in the past. A person can easily play with existing MLP or even existing Brony Music samples & music, with effects and techniques and get some noisey results so it's not really that hard to make. I've often thought that noise is more fun to make then hear but I'd be very interested in assisting.

I like doing some sound collages so let me try a few minutes of 4 or 5 episodes running at different speeds collaged and upload it up tonight or tomorrow.

When I get back to the Uni and get my delay pedal back I'll just take my delay pedal, put it on my bass and turn it into reverse mode and wail on it for a little while hehe, that should get you some weird tones

@Pon-3 - oh Supersaw Hoover has us quite acquainted with noisecore haha

If I may quoth what I've learned from Wikipedia (lol), many a dictionary and music class, "Music is an art form whose medium is sound and silence." Basically, it is just sounds that are organized in a way that appeal to the abstract process of thought. So yes, noise IS a VERY legitimate form of music. :D

So yeah, I can't make noise digitally, but I can do cool things with my throat!
Enjoy some.... windy pteradactly sounds 100% generated from my throat + mic with no effects...
I challenge you to make something worthwile out of the 3 samples I did :ugeek:

Okay, despite my reluctance to this, I've found two sounds for you. There's a bit of background noise... unintended background noise in there too, but that couldn't be helped.

Take as long as you need to do a good job. As I said before, this needs to be done really well, otherwise everyone will just call it a bunch of noises.

wait up. One of my friends plays the didgeridoo (Yes I'm Australian), maybe I can make something from that.
ps. What is it you want to use the noises for? Or are you literally just listening to a noise as music?

This literally could be done in ANY WAY, but it's STILL a noise project. Noise is music. If you weren't aware of this, then please, expand your horizons. ;3

Actually, noise is music, silly! And it's a compilation. And that would be a great addition!

This is a cool idea!
I have this weird percussive instrument. I'm not really sure what it is, but here's some random notes on it. I added a delay effect because I thought it sounded cool, but if you'd prefer the audio without that effect I can take it out and post that too.
