I know there's always controversy when a list comes out about who's missing, weird rankings (Flutterwonder #51?), etc but this is at least an impressive accomplishment of narrowing down over 4000+ tracks into one top 100 and its nice having a zip of all the tracks. MLR could always have its own poll where everyone send in their ranked top 25, tally points, and have new results if people ever wanted to try a second list. Certainly results may differ on follow-up polls.

I cannot possibly be the only one who thinks this list is inaccurate in numerous ways. It's biased towards songs that sound more modern, no? (in my opinion, of course)

No, it was a very strange list. The top few seemed more like compromise, unobjectionable choices between many people rather than true best songs.

The good and famous/key songs were usually all on there, and all the artists of note got some representation. And they hyped #6 Balloons In My Basket lots, and #10 Hand to Hoof, so I'm happy about that. The list was missing Of Loyalty and Fluttershy's Lament original version but that's not too bad.

The top was too Jackle/Alex S/Tomb heavy and certainly favoured dubstep/electronic over acoustic songs. I also thought there were too many remixes on the list; they should only be top 100 if they do something substantially different or new rather than being an arrangement in X genre.

I like the idea of an MLR poll, but maybe only between musicians (so not me) so that EqD doesn't hear about it and flood the poll.

That's why if there's enough "that doesn't reflect our taste" comments that MLR could make their own list and build maybe a "better list" then what we have so far. It's easier to put forth lists after you've already seen what others have put (as you know what's missing, too high, etc). I can certainly take different sites lists and put the scores together and see what the results are to get a better from which to draw from. Basically if anyone registered before 2012 here puts forth their top lists it also stops tampering from outside boards (I've seen that happen before). Keep in mind I think one of the reasons they got a ton 10 of mostly SONGS (ie sung lyrics) is because they polled for Top 100 Brony SONGS. If you say TRACKS you open it up for all forms of music (and not those who were literally looking for songs) and I think if people keep in mind they should be sampling or influenced by MLP they'll not submit tracks that don't really fit those criteria by brony artists.

I've done these type of polls on other forums before where fans give their top tracks lists and then you use a point system and get a final master list that reflects the over votes. It's certainly the most democratic way and i think mlr's tastes may differ from those that constitute non-musicians.

I've done this before on the representative forums for U2, Radiohead, Coldplay, and The Cure and they've come out rather well. I'd be absolutely happy to do it for MLR. Just say the word.

Most people listen to more electronic music than classical, that's why Everfree's top 100 was more focused on electronica.

While talking with sellyme of Everfree radio, he stated that he talked with many musicians who got onto the top and many that didn't get on the top, and that he talked to lots of people actually forcing them to listen to different songs and rate them.

This way, catchy songs will be rated higher than not catchy ones.

And let me tell you: It's much easier to enjoy electronic music than orchestral.

That's debatable, but I won't go there. There are still a TON of great pony rock songs that didn't get into the Everfree one, and if what you say is true, there's some really obvious judge bias in there. Celestia Radio's at least has a better balance of different genres.

Go for it DJ-Pon3. MLR's list can't be worse than the two already posted. You also need some guidelines on what is eligible - remixes, ponified non-pony songs and so on - so people know what to rate.

These lists do have a point because when people are new to the fandom the amount of music and artists is overwhelming and a short list with both breadth and quality will help them to find what they like. Everfree has more of the recognisable songs, Celestia has more genre coverage.

In fact, Makkon's battle theme for Celestia Origins is inspiring me to try and port that as a JRPG in cel-shading. I've never had that with any other song before. Ever. That's how strong classical music is.

I don't know whether to agree or disagree!
I am pretty young so the majority of music played is electronic/dubstep etc, however, I have always enjoyed orchestral music, I think it is because of how smooth the notes blend into each other.
While 90% of my ipod is electronic, the other 10% is listened to more than 75% of the electronic songs.

Not everyone enjoys electronic music more than orchestral, and I completely forgot about rock, hell, I even think rock and electronica are equal, but my point is about classical music being usually harder to find on a average person's mp3 player.

Classical music is only harder to enjoy for most people today, because most people have been conditioned into -- or born into (let's be safe) -- only having a pallet for the various types of pop music, electronic included. The same goes for enjoying silent film or escargot. The same goes, really, for learning to enjoy anything.

But back on topic, I don't think the lists are all that bad. I probably would've had I bunch more of pps' songs up top, but there is certainly something very special about the nexus between Glaze, Tombstone, and Mic in and of itself -- that is, perhaps not even musically, just community-wise.

i think classical music is appreciated when its integrated with popular mainstream products like Halo or the movie Inception. but i think its appreciated in a way that isn't meant to be. they see it as all epic sounding and they don't listen to it musically but what can you expect? not everyone listens to music going like, "OOO the progression from the E flat to G 7 diminished was so AWESOME!" lol yeah

I combined the Top 50 Cellestial Radio and the Top 100 Everfree Radio (and added artists to the list) just to see what the combination would look like. Only 19 tracks were on both lists which was a little disappointing. I gave each points of 101-their rank (so something at #1 would have 100 points, something at #11 would have 90, etc).
