SUPER MLR EVENT BROS: NEW YEAR'S LEARNING WEEK

Postby Circuitfry » 31 Dec 2011 15:08

NEW YEAR'S LEARNING WEEK!!!
Consider this MLR's scholastic Burning Man! With the new year beginning some of us may be making resolutions to get to know new tools. Naturally being a Sparkle and Pinkie kind of person, I came up with a Learning Party! Let's have one every year, if possible!

WHERE:
This event will be hosted on the MLR synchtube starting tomorrow! If you've never been to the synchtube, it can be found here: http://synchtube.com/r/circuitfry

WHEN:
It goes from January 1st all the way to January 8th. Each day will be reserved in advance to learn about a tool that musicians can use. For some of us in other parts of the world, the party is late.

WHAT TO DO:
We encourage musicians who are already familiar with the tools to offer their expertise and explain the basics and tricks in the synchtube, the skype chat, IRC, etcetera. We will spend all day every day talking about at most 3 tools. New users are encouraged to look for videos that teach about the tools. Just find something that makes you say "Looks cool, I'll look at it later" and then consider it your entry to Learning Party!

HOW IT WILL HAPPEN:
Every day, the synchtube playlist will be cleared to make room for videos about a tool. All members are free to be wherever (skype, IRC, synchtube), but the subject of the day is focused on the particular instrument or tool and videos about it. It's a good idea to hop in the 24/7 running synchtube. To make it official we'll decide a good starting time to collectively gather and start the new day.

I would propose the lesson on importance of mixing but I’m a VERY bad and boring teacher.

Also we need to incorporate into mastering lesson that mastering is less important than proper mixing. Both mastering engineers and mixing engineers agree on that.

I'll second this. I'd also like to see something about the proper use of compression, as well as some creative uses for it, and if possible, something about processing vocals. And maybe some glitching, but that may be going a bit far. :B

Also, Essinth, I don't think you'd make a lousy or boring teacher. Personally, I'd love to hear what you have to offer on the topic. c:

Not quite certain I understand this... So we're just making a synctube playlist based on a certain topic? I don't understand why this is like a weekly/time-based event, why not just have those people make a thread on MLR or create a guide themselves? Of course I could be misunderstanding so yeah.

Learning? YAY
Oh wait... Those exact 7 days is when I'll have really slow internet D:
Are these sessions going to be saved anywhere?
Also, I MIGHT be able to teach something... But someone else is probably better at the things I use

I could teach ableton but I don't think my internet is able to livestream audio and video in decent quality, or even if my computer is able to capture video at a decent framerate.

and I'd have to run ableton massive, z3ta+ >NEXUS< <<<<-----the main problem. melodyne, 20 simplers,

I could do it next month when I got my PC upgraded

I can do a little something about mixing, particularly compression and EQ.

I can also do music theory, singing, and/or random things on the guitar. Like tapping correctly!

Wonderous. Why can't we have it as a guide because my Internet won't play streaming video at a rate higher than 1fp4s-4fps with distorted or missing sound?

I'd do something myself, but my Internet SUCKS.
