Official Discussion Thread (Ghost Edit)

Sports, politics, movies, videogames, questionable hobbies, photos from your family vacation, etc. Talk about stuff that isn't ponies or music. But do try to stay on topic and respectful of alternate opinions.

I began to think bronies are weird.

Why is it that I can think it's cool for me to song along to this but it's weird when I see older people do the same?

Because you are ageist.... it's a but underhanded for you to give a bad opinion towards someone who did EXACTLY as you did simply because he was older and fatter then you. Be better then that dude.

Went to the first marching competition of the season, the Four States invitational (Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma, basically.) Got all 1's (scale of 1-5, 1 being the best, 5 the worst) in everything but Color Guard (the other categories being Band, Percussion, and Drum Major.) Had a good time, and I managed to get a nice sunburn, especially on my right leg. Sadly, it didn't even out to my left leg, so that one looks like it just has a rash.

It's only bad if you express it. If you keep your initial reactions on the inside and avoid acting on them it's no problem imo... Maybe I think that because otherwhise I would have to class myself as both homophobic and racist on a daily basis... and sometimes sexist... Forget I wrote that
Anyway. You can't do much about your first impressions of people except not act on them :/ To quote Unikitty "We take all the thoughts that are the opposite of fun and put them in a deep dark place where we never, ever find them"... or something like that.

Has anyone ever heard of a remix contest where you have to pay just to get the stems

you feel quite strong about this.

The guy I know who is doing this is
The American Dollar

He makes ambient music

I am thinking about doing this contest but I have just never heard of people buying the stems before.

It's actually pretty smart, say you've got 100,000 followers, like 90% of them know you're having a remix competition, and maybe 20% are producers and might participate. So your page is crouded with roughly 18000 remixes, most of which will not be heard by or voted for by anyone because holy shit there's 18000 remixes of this song. It's just clutter at that point.

Paid stems means 2 things, less clutter and more people who're serious about they're remix. In theory you could easily cut this number around 18000 to less than 5000.

Basically what's wrong with the person doing this is that they dislike bullshitting people by having too much clutter to even hear most entries. It's a fairer chance for those who enter.

My numbers are a little generous though, 5000 would be the upper limit of remixes. But Skrillex's Make It Bun Dem competition has about 200 hours of remix, most of which has fewer than 10 votes

What, The American Dollar is doing a remix compo? :D

Pay-only... Yeah I've seen it once before. Ridiculous in my opinion. And it's sad because I love his work.
I have Har•mo•ny, a game for iOS with his music in it. It's really chilling.

One song on that artists page for the stems cost like 3 dollars. I really feel thats a symbolic price more than anything.

Not only for remix material, but its nice to see the stems too, to analyze and shit.

That is an absurdly liberal estimate. It'd be a freakin christmas miracle if you got more than a couple thousand remixes in a contest from someone with only 100,000 followers.
Notebook Memories, the debut album from yours truly, is currently up on my bandcamp for free. Any feedback, encouragement, hate mail, etc. is highly appreciated! Even just listening is pretty cool of you tbh.

I purchased an album from him last December with over 50 songs. I guess I can say that I have listened to it over 70 hours. I love it a lot.
Doing a remix of their work is something I've actually been wanting to do for awhile.
Plus, the American dollar is actually two people
