Honestly, I've never tried Kontakt before, I heard its pretty good. But I will agree with JSynth on this one, it does drain a lot of CPU.

Anyways, it's currently raining and there's lightning out there. I'm feeling a bit scared, but I am typing this in my no-window shelter, which is perfect!

If you ever plan on working with VSTIs and full-fledged libraries then Kontakt is a must have. It's an industry standard for good reason and many products are made exclusively for it.

Eery is right. The minute you start getting good at ableton is the minute your sanity dies. But once that bit's outta the way it's really good to work with, at this point I use both FL Studio and Ableton. Ableton's inbuilt effects routing and macro control can actually let you do a lot of things that would take at least three times as much effort in FL Studio with half the effort, but you have to be used to the workflow. The only major issue I find with ableton's routing and processing is that it can get a little cpu heavy, but you can freeze tracks really easily to save cpu and if you want you can bounce it straight to a .wav in the project and keep the same timing (doing the same in FL would mean either recording into Edison, waiting and having to reposition it or rendering it out then deleting the original instrument and putting it back in the project).

But yeah at first Ableton makes no bloody sense to anyone.

Well the best thing about Kontakt is its not a synth. You're not simulating a sound or trying to make a synth sound like a guitar, you're using sampled recorded samples that are trigged by the midi patterns or by your keyboard. So that's why it's a must for orchestral musicians who want to sound like they have a symphony, or for musicians who want to sound like they have a drummer or a bassist. It's a little weird setting up in FL studio so don't be surprised if you need to do special setups or change the color of your piano patterns before they start playing.

Biggest issue is you need good libraries to have an instrument sound authentic, that requires a LOT of samples and a decent size library for every instrument or orchestra you need. A flute, bassoon, violin, etc can be a different library for each or a big library to use. Kontakt, like your DAW, is just the delivery system to make it happen, its not making the sounds, its just unlocking your access to the sound library to make that happen. A library may be 4-45 GB a piece. You may want a few different sounding drum kits instead of just one for example. Each library costs lots of money so your budget will be in a world of hurt if you go that direction (and your Kontakt isn't cracked). Getting Komplete is not a bad way to get a chunk of this (and great synths) all in one shot.

Here's a few recommended ones i threw in a list from MLR recommendations along with some vids on each in use. This way you can see a few in use.
https://rateyourmusic.com/list/TheScien ... libraries/

Hope this helps you figure out if you want or need it (to those less familiar with it). There are some sampled synths that use Kontakt so you might get access to some great retro analog or current synths that way too.

On my brother's birthday a few days ago, I bought him (and myself) Disco Dodgeball. That game is so damn addicting, I couldn't stop playing it. I even got Berri addicted too xD

I really hope some other MLR'ians would like to join us in the game some time. Why should you? Because look at this:

It's just $10 (if you get it from Humble Bundle, if you buy it on Steam directly it'll be $10, €10 or £10 whatever depending on where you live).

I've been considering getting ableton myself, for more real-time based stuff, but 1. it is hella expensive and 2. it has a reputation for being confusing, so I'm not sure :/
Notebook Memories, the debut album from yours truly, is currently up on my bandcamp for free. Any feedback, encouragement, hate mail, etc. is highly appreciated! Even just listening is pretty cool of you tbh.

It's ridiculously simple and easy, but so heavily fun and addicting! You should totally hit me up on Skype once you bought it (or just add me on Steam).

I'd so love to just have one big MLR match on Disco Dodgeball :D

Hello LFP

@exo
Not sure when I will get it. Cuz I'm currently grounded :/ and my credit card was replaced so I'm not 100% sure my one will actually work yet. But, it looks fun. It would be cool to have an all MLR match

I'm just really pleased that the standard FX units are pretty much everything I need for processing my sounds. Any of my own collection are more specialist and it really trims the amount of fiddling I have to do. The routing and stuff helps too.

Oh my god, the 8 new channels on Digitally Imported internet radio ...
I am so thankful for Bass & Jackin' House, Bassline, Jungle and the two Oldschool channels, but seriously, Nightcore? And also Future Garage ... There's already a Chillstep channel.

Sometimes ...

Anyhow, so gonna enjoy those five mentioned awesome channels :D

Ok, I just watched The Lion King. Phenomenal movie. I really love it. It's a classic that I hope never dies.

It makes me really miss Nine Volt super bad. I don't know why, but I really miss him now. It's sad that he's stopped music and visiting, but he said it's for the best for him, so I'll just have to be like Frozen and let it go.

But I gotta say. Rewatching it, I was slightly disappointed with it. Some of the voice acting was pretty meh, the really emotional scenes that were supposed to be the ones that really got to you, like when Simba goes over to his dad's body, just weren't as emotional as I had remembered/thought they would be. They seemed sorta... Rushed, I want to say.

But overall, I'm glad that I watched it again.
