Music You Love from Genres You Don't

LET'S TRY TO ACTUALLY HAVE A DISCUSSION INSTEAD OF A SOLID WALL OF EMBEDS, SHALL WE? TRY TO LIMIT EACH POST TO 1-2 SONGS PLEASE. YOU CAN ALWAYS POST AGAIN AFTER OTHER PEOPLE HAVE POSTED this is a forum for christsake

I never, ever listened to electronic music before I became a part of the Brony fandom, and I don't listen to much outside of the music we've created here. But one of you mentioned this song at some point, and I checked it out and was blown away. I still am. The simplicity of the actual notes here is elementary; I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult at all to pick them out on a piano. And it's starkly, hypnotically repetitive. It also seems to almost always be crescendoing, too, which is a neat trick. All in all, it's an unexpectedly beautiful and moving song, and the other things I've heard from deadmau5 (who is sort of a big deal I guess) hasn't turned me on nearly as much as this one did.

So tell us, Bronies: are their any songs from genres you normally don't care for or even hate that you just absolutely love? If so, let's hear about them!

Absolutely.

This one drone metal band (or act? It might just be one guy, I don't remember) by the name of Jesu remixed another noise metal band's song, "The Echo of Something Lovely" by Pyramids. I can't listen to anything else on the album, but this track is hauntingly beautiful. It's like a really slow, buzzy trance song or something. I absolutely love it.

I know I'm meant to be a crazy atonal classical nut, but...

This is probably one of my favourite soundtracks ever...=/

EXPLICIT CONTENT

While I see the value in all music, I often don't find myself listening to too much rap and RnB. I seem to have stereotyped it to be all about DRUGS AND BITCHES, which I feel degrades the art of music.

I really like this one however. Though it could just be because it feeds that bias up there. It talks about how some rap songs are forming a culture that is working against society: like this quote:

"They're trying to graduate from school Lu (Dumb it down)
They're starting to think that smart is cool Lu (Dumb it down)
They're trying to get up out the hood Lu (Dumb it down)
I'll tell you what you should do (Dumb it down)"

Personally I do feel that the majority of the subject matter in rap is pretty disgusting. So hearing something with a good message in it is kind of refreshing for me.

Yes I'm forrealz, yo.

Personal experiences led me to be a fan of that second one.

Something about the piano and mood of the first one tickles me fancy. I also love the way it utilized a sample from Maroon 5.

I don't like electro house and other houses, 4 on the floor beat just iritates me, but this song is something different. I don't know, maybe I like it because it's one of my favourite dubstep musicians or maybe because of the Ducktales sample
