The Good News Thread

Sports, politics, movies, videogames, questionable hobbies, photos from your family vacation, etc. Talk about stuff that isn't ponies or music. But do try to stay on topic and respectful of alternate opinions.

I'm a scout! (an Australian one, whatever)

Props on the ...promotion (?)

And yeah, I kinda lost respect for the American Scouts when I heard that they still refuse to accept gays. Shit ain't cool, bro.

It frustrates me that I get flamed for policies that I have no say in. Whether or not the scouting executives discriminate has nothing to do with the amount of work and dedication people put into earning eagle. The rank is basically worthless these days because the only people that respect it are other scouters, who are rather quickly becoming extinct.

I used to be a scout as well. I have a couple of friends who are eagle scouts as well. What are you doing/did you do for your project?

I built about 40 or so steps into a rather dangerous slope on a hiking trail. Not particularly inventive, but still useful.

Morte, you would've been the first person i'd asked had I'd been looking for a Bari/Bass.

Unfortunately. The bubbly, peaceful, simple instrumental (that seems Owl City inspired) I've crafted would fit the vocal range of a Tenor/Alto.

Alas, I shall call you up When I've prepared something that fits your Deep, Powerful voice (should be soon)

I owe a lot to you guys. I really do. I went to a friend's house to have a movie party type thing about 10 miles away. It was pretty nice to be around others for a change. The meetup ended and we all left. Upon getting home, I noticed that my laptop charger was missing. I looked in all my bags and they all came up empty. My heart dropped to my feet, bounced up, and came out my mouth.

This laptop is my only computer and I have a lot of work to do for all of my college classes. I literally felt as though my newborn child had just had it's throat slit.

I asked dad if he was going out there tomorrow, in a panic thinking of all the solutions I could possibly come up with. After thoroughly trying to find solutions I found that my original ride had gone to bed and would not be helping me, I didn't have the friend's number and his car wasn't working, the only person still awake in my house was my father, and his car was completely out of gas. I went to my room, covered my head with my pillow and screamed as loud as I could. This would surely be the end of this term in school. I would fail all of my classes and ruin my GPA because there was no way I'd be able to get that charger back for weeks and a lot of important assignments are due on Monday.

Then I realized something.

I hadn't checked my song sales in a while. I hurried on to my quickly dying laptop and logged into my account. I had a whopping 30 dollars in there!! I purposely haven't been checking so I could save up for a new mouse or pair of headphones which I desperately need at this point. I was so fucking happy that there was money, I gave dad half a tank of gas. We went back to my friend's house to get the charger, thankfully he hadn't quite gone to bed yet, and I cried from pure relief the entire ride home.
This would not have been possible without you guys. I would not be writing this to you right now, and my dad would not have been able to go to work today. I love you so much for liking my music enough to actually buy it from me. The feels are so overwhelming I'm tearing up again. Expect a song dedicated to you guys and your generosity very soon.
Thank you so much. :')

Normally this is something that should go in the Good News Thread, but this is just such a fantastic story I feel it kinda deserves its own thread.

I had an emotion over this.

I highly doubt your educational institute lacks the required resources for you to pass without a personal computer. Even the most run down institutes I've visited who run music courses have computer labs. Heck, even my high school had a computer with Reason, Cubase and Sibelius on it.

I can finally contribute to this thread!

I've been feeling kinda down about life in general for a little while. I was having doubts about my music, the cat I've had for more than half my life unexpectedly died a few weeks ago, my family's been going through all sorts of financial and legal trouble... Shit happened, and I was sad.

Suddenly, kitten!

No, seriously. An injured kitten literally showed up on my doorstep just over an hour ago. His tail is... pretty fucked up and will probably need to be removed. But this little guy, he didn't really seem to be too worried about it. As soon as we brought him in, he started running around exploring, what's left of his tail sticking straight up. I treated his tail to the best of my ability - I'm no vet and I'm pretty useless as far as first aid even on humans, but I was afraid of it getting infected. He's really playful and affectionate, and as I type this he's falling asleep in my lap.

Image

I'm not sure if we're going to keep him - I really hope we do, but that's up to my parents - but even if we don't... I might have just saved a kitten's life. Feels good mang.

I'm almost certain he belongs to someone around here, and obviously I'm going to try and find out and return him if he does. But secretly I hope he doesn't. :D
