Just talking about positioning monitors. Basics are:

1) tweeters at ear level, or close to.

2) not in a corner, that's where bass collects so your bass with be distorted.

3) place your setup facing the long way of the room, not the short way. It'll give the waveforms more length to move around, or something along those lines.

4) form an equilateral triangle between your mixing position and your monitors, to the best extent that you can.

But anyways, if you have any other questions beyond those just ask 4thImpulse, he knows more about setting up a studio than I do, especially when it comes to acoustic panels. I still have yet to learn about calculating room modes.

Considering my "studio" is a room in my basement built (literally, we built the room in) for gaming and hanging with friends, I'm not sure how much I am going to accomplish.

Still, nothing wrong with learning. I'll need to know this eventually.

Hey there nOk, you might want to reposition your monitors and desk and workspace. It's not very good idea to have your setup in a corner, since that's where bass accumulates, so you'll end up with a distorted bass when you listen on your monitors. So you really want to look into shifting everything so that your setup isn't in a corner.

Anyways, nice mixer board.

If you want you can PM me about you studio set, I know quite a bit when it comes to acoustics and studio setups.

Oooh, I might. Ideally I wouldn't be in that corner. I don't know if I could move to face the wall lengthwise due to power outlet limitations, but I do want to move up against the wall. I was planning on building my own desk this year but I don't know if ill have time (not to mention i haven't built anything in my life).
The mixing board is good but it's more than I need. Hehe thanks :)

A lot of it I either got for free, or for really cheap. Most of it's pretty old too. But I guess that's the advantage of having a dad in the music business though

Behringer B3030As. Budget monitors, they go for about 175 euros each so they're kinda between the KRK RP5s and 6s price wise. I love them myself, chose these instead of the KRK RP5s because they go deeper (6.75' woofer) and have better highs and lows imo.

I would be claustrophobic in that corner. Why not rotate everything so the two desks are against the walls or something? (not saying its bad, its a cute setup)

You should make some wood handles for that APC40! Cool workstation.

After lots of soldering and re-foaming I might have myself myself some fancy new (but really old) reference speakers. MY old speakers are sitting on top for a size comparison, haven't decide where I need those ones to sit yet.

Took a couple weekends to fix (mostly waiting for parts) but they are pumping hard :D
If I decide to keep them then I shall buy a better amplifier, the current old has got some bad variable resistors on the brink of failure (due to it being ~25 years old).

Gotta say that APC looks really sexy with those wooden sides, but I'll stick to my rubbery plastic sides I think haha. And thanks, your workstation looks great too, jealous of that X-station! ;)

Dang that's one awesome set-up.

I'd take a pic of my "studio",but my set up is literally my computer and a pair of headphones, with an occasional USB mic plugged in.

Don't be, the x-station isn't anything too special. Its an entry level synth engine with a soundcard and midi controller built in. I am getting close to selling it, it was fun when I first got it and I got some cool sounds out of it but its too limited for my needs.

I was actually thinking of getting one of those cheap entry level synths. Just for messing around with. For serious stuff I prefer my VSTs (although I wouldn't mind a Virus TI).

Actually heard them at the music store, they sound pretty mint but keep in mind they have almost no low range. So if you're making Jazz or orchestral or simply have a subwoofer they'll do fine, but for EDM I would not recommend them.

My experience has been backwards from that, entry level synths usually can be easily replaced by soft synths. Its the more professional/unique ones that have their own 'sound' (or analog synths) and can not be easily replaced with software. Although just having a hardware synth, of any kind, for the physical controls can be a lot of fun.

JayBrony wrote:Korg MS2000. Marry me. Now. :P

As long as I can use that V-synth
Have you seen the new MS-20 reissue? I don't know if your into those kinds of synths but I know I will be picking on up hopefully this summer.
