How'd You Become A Brony?

We all love it, otherwise it's unlikely you'd be here. Talk about the show and the fanbase surrounding it. Brony music discussions encouraged.

I was in a group with my friends on facebook (called the awesome group). A couple of them were bronies and made the mistake of loving and tolerating (pics included) the shit out of anther person in the group. They got angry and made the rule no ponies to be posted or talked about in awesome group, so those bronies made a new group but they invited everyone from the awesome group in as well.

I almost ignored the invite to the group but I decided to see what they were on about, it was basically a group for posting ponified meme's and chatting bout them (which I found funny even though I wasn't a brony). At one point a friend put up a link to an episode (mare do-well) and was talking about the beginning (where they decide RBD is most awesome pony).

I watched the bit the guy was talking about and then kept watching (as it was the full episode linked) I started skipping bits, it wasn't making much sense to me at all. Eventually I decided I was going to go back and watch all the episodes up to that episode so it made more sense.

Little did I realise I had watched Episode 8 in season 2. So by the time I made it back to that episode, not only did it make sense, but I was completely hooked on the show. :P

You know when kids copy their older brothers? Well, that's the opposite of what I did. Both my younger brothers were bronies (or brony's?) so I decided to see what was so great about MLP, watched the first episode, then became a brony ! :D

Between all the memes, pictures, YTPs, and assorted hype I kept hearing, I just strapped in one day and watched the first two episodes on Youtube, and I was pretty much hooked after that.

One day while I was browsing the interwebs I came across Epic Pie Time. I thought it was hilarious and continued watching the related videos, passing by many, many videos. I soon decided I'd watch an episode and see what it's all about. So I watched the two very first episodes, and didn't like it. I didn't continue to watch the show, but I was hooked on the music that the community was producing!

2 months down the track, I'm talking to one of my friends at school, when another one of my friends walks up to me and says, "do you watch My Little Pony?" I explained my experience with it and we left it at that. Once school finished that day, I decided to give it another shot, and I've been a brony since. :D

Someone posted The Elder Scrolls VI: Equestria on reddit. The animation looked amazing, but I assumed the show wouldn't be that entertaining for someone my age. Then I read all the comments saying how the show was actually good, and I immediately loaded up the first episode without question. I was expecting it to be good, but I wasn't expecting to get hooked on it the way I did.

I had seen pictures all over the place and was pissed at seeing them so much. I pretty much was like "fuck it" and watched it. I decided it was really stupid (not gay, because I don't call things gay (except my friends XD) because I'm not the straightest rod) and left it. Finally my friend was like watch the show so I gave in and watched the first episode. One became 2, and I watched it very secretly at first, afraid of judgement. Then I watched it openly and laughed at haters and wear a brony bracelet and some pony tshirts. I even converted my friend (though he may not want to admit it) and brother.
I don't know where I would be without ponies.

How did I become a brony?

Oh boy, here we go. GATHER ROUND, CHILDREN, IT'S STORY TIME

So we'll start things off at about a year and a half ago. Now, at the time, my living situation was deplorable. I was living with a bunch of friends of mine, who were all massive potheads (So was I, really). The house we lived in was an absolute dump, I had no job, and I was hanging out with some less than savoury types. Also smoking like a pack a day. I won't bore you with the petty details, but we'll just say I had a lot to be stressed about.

One day I snapped and had to go to the hospital for psychosis. Spent a few weeks there, got pegged with Social Anxiety and Depression, and put on some medications. Stuff was pretty hazy for me for a while. I was suffering mass paranoia, panic attacks, minor hallucinations. Eventually, though, I was good enough to be sent home.

Whilst in recovery, spending the time at my parent's house, I spent a lot of time online. Caught wind of the pony thing through a buddy of mine who loves in Cali, and it piqued my interest. At first I took the general "WTF is this" approach to it, and started watching it as a joke, not expecting to like it at all. I really just wanted to prove to myself that it was stupid and move on with my life.

Before I knew it I had watched the whole first season...And then I watched it again. It took me a while to ease into things, but now I proudly wear my Discord hoodie wherever I go, and I'm absolutely loving the fan community involved with the show. It's amazing, and the show really helped me in my time of recovery. Whenever I felt depressed or anxious, I'd just pop on an episode, and I would honestly feel better for it.

I've quit smoking (pot and tobacco), and I've got me a job. I'm still on medications, just as a safety measure, to make sure I don't relapse and develop Schizophrenia/Bipolar disorder/Anything scary like that, but I'm off the antidepressants, mostly because of the show. The show, and the community played an active part in helping me get better. I owe a lot to it, really.

My friends and family still don't quite get it, but I don't particularily care. It's a fun show, and if they can't understand that, then they're missing out on something great.

Sorry for the sap story. You asked how I became a brony, I answered. Whatev's bro.
It ain't Brony Music without a blaring and intrusive airhorn sample.

The irony of my entrance into the MLP community is that it's both the least present way and the most likely way to enter it. Most of you folks got into it through the Internet, a few of you had IRL friends, but me?

My little sister. How absurdly ironic.

Basically, she had gotten a coloring book from the Dollar Store that happened to be MLP:FiM and taken it home. It wasn't exactly a rare happening, but there was something different about it that time, namely that the ponies on the cover were, as I put it, "disturbingly cute". I found myself going back to look at the cover because the ponies were just so cute. I had actually seen some pony-related stuff on the Internet before, but I had no idea it was pony, so this was completely new to me.

I can't remember what happened next, though. Maybe Pinkie Pie broke the Fourth Wall and hypnotized me or something. All I can remember is laughing at myself for liking it and then spreading the word throughout the arid, cultureless universe that is my hometown. I've managed to get two people to enjoy it, and I'm no longer friends with them because one's really creepy and the other isn't smart enough for us to have edifying conversations with each other. (I'm not saying he's stupid, I just have a hard time associating with people who can't think at my level. I'm literally only friends with smart teenagers and adults.) I do know of a group of older kids who enjoy the show, though; they actually posted a copy of every single friendship letter in the show (and this was in the middle of the second season) on the walls of our school. Got taken down by seventh period, but it was great while it lasted.
I make music because I'm not mediocre at everything yet.

Well, my story is funny :D
It began all with facebook...

I liked a page called "Lesbian Ponies" (Well it's not Ad now, but if you are a brony, LIKE!!).
And I saw pictures of the ponies and some real version of the characters... or anime...
Well, I've fallen in Love with Rainbow-Dash. Ever since then I followed every picture and became more interested.
Then, a few days later, (that was a few days ago) I turned on the TV at about 6 o'clock in the morning. So, after watching some porn, finally at the end there was My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. I watched this Episode, and it was awesome :D
In this Episode, which I don't know it's name for now, it was about what the ponies are for. (eg. Rarity for generosity and so on...)
Well I might start to watch the full series, when I get a new PC with more Space, 'cause I don't have any left, to download and watch in good quality :'( ...
Well, after the day past by, I was chatting with a friend. He showed me Silva Hound's song. Ever since then I followed Balloon Party and I am so excited of it, how much talent there is!
And my dream for now, is to watch MLP in the next days and to be on one of these CD's...
With Balloon Party I came to MyLittleRemix.com.
Now, I love MyLittlePony so much, I think I will do in 80 years as much! (If I will live then... ^^)

Hopefully there are more stories I can read :) And I hope you liked this one, 'cause it's 100% true.

How I became a brony....
Heard about it from a younger female cousin... reaction:
Said "I'm a guy... not a loser."
After a month of it repeating like a broken record, I yelled at her "FINE! I'll watch your little crap if it makes you shut up!"
I watched the Winter Wrap-Up episode with her, fuming.
I ended up watching the whole 3 hours of recorded MLP with her.
After it ended, she looked at me like Spongebob did when he found Squidward in the Patty Vault.
I rolled my eyes, and said "Eh, it could've been better... NOT! THAT WAS THE BEST I'VE SEEN!"
She socked me in the gut for not trying it sooner.

And that was how I became a brony!

It took about a year from when I first discovered ponies to becoming a brony. I went on Youtube one day and saw that one of the featured videos on the home page was Epic Cupcake Time. This was fall of 2011 For some reason, I clicked on it. I had no idea what it was, I thought after a minute or two that it was a show for little girls. Then I heard someone swear and I was like, "Thats not for little girls. haha" I thought it was kind of funny, but that was it. A few months later while having fun on Youtube again, I discovered YTP. I saw one about ponies...and another...and another. Then I saw a few pictures on Youtube that were funny, I thought it was funny. But still at this time, I had no idea that men and grown ups watch mlp. I thought that these people were just splicing the video to make it really funny. That was in spring of 2012. I went to a summer camp (in the summer) and at the camp, they take videos pf everyone during the day and make highlights of the day. For some reason, they put ponies in them on one day. I knew that they were ponies, i was mostly confused as to why they put ponies into a camp video. but oh well.
The next day at camp down by the lake, some dude was naming all the ponies. what a weirdo I thought.
Some time during fall 2012, i asked a girl to home coming, and we watched Rhett and Link on youtube at her house. That night, I looked them up some more, and saw something about them talking about bronies. I had no clue what a brony was yet, but i clicked on it to find out. They mentioned three videos and put them in the description (i think.) Either way, I watched the video that he was talking about, it was Ballad of the Brony. I watched the whole thing and i was really enjoying the music compilation in the beginning of it. (Alex S mlp intro glitch remix) I wanted that song a lot, but i could not figure out what it was. But anyway, while watching it, i decided "why not". I watched the first episode, then the next, and the next while trying to find some rad music along the way. I guess you can say that the music really got me hooked. But, i was not really hooked onto the show until after I watched the entire first season. Then, I watched the entire second season in a single week. I decided, "you know what, this is awesome."
ever since, ive been listening to pony music, and watching the show.

I guess now that its resurrected; I became one after being drowned with fanart on dA before the premier of Season 2, and checking it out as a result.

Ok, I'll do mine.

There was this guy I went to Engineering class with in grade 10, and he was a pretty alright guy, so we started talking a bit. He didn't mention MLP for a pretty long time, but one day I saw some people gathered around him at a picnic table in the school Library's courtyard. So I took a look and he's drawing a pony, so he tells me all about it, I go home and watch it and get hooked.

Now we're best friends, and I'm friends with all of those people who were gathered around him that day. We still hang out in that courtyard. I'm not so crazy about the fandom anymore, but I made 5 of the best friends I've ever had through it. No regrets.

Plus I would have never even thought to start making music without exposure to EDM through people like Eurobeat, Alex S etc.

Yay I love necromancy!

I became a brony when my friend showed me the show and I thought it wasn't too bad. I watched a few episodes and I liked them. The end.

I don't consider myself a brony anymore though; the show and the fandom (ESPECIALLY the fandom) have lost their appeal to me. I just don't enjoy them anymore.

So now that it's revived from the ashes, I'll go ahead and post my novel reasonable sized story.

*ahem*
I was mainly dicking around on Youtube while I was supposed to be making homework. Then, at a certain time, I suddenly found Epic Wub Time in my related videos.
I liked the concept of a Dubstep DJ pony and a classical pony living together (what?) and quickly jumped on my laptop to check out more. I kept clicking related videos and such...
And after one day I downloaded season 1 (I hadn't seen anything else but fan-made videos), converted them and secretly put em on my PSP.
That night when I was supposed to be sleeping I watched a good quantity of the first season, and I noticed I was hooked.

One may think that as much as he or she likes, but that doesn't take away a very important detail:
there are rules.
It may be harsh, but rules aren't to be broken on the internet, for punishments here can be relentless. You'd do yourself good to not repeat this kind of mistake too often.

And I second what eery said.

This all looks, smells and sounds really stupid to me. I'd support enforcing a 'no necromancy' rule in a help thread that's already been resolved or something of that effect, but this is an open discussion. Who cares if someone answered a question a bit late? This thread is just as relevant now as it was when it was created.

If you really must enforce this rule mercilessly, why not just have every single thread locked after a month has passed, instead of berating every newbie that doesn't conform to some unwritten forum rule?

"a bit late"

>is 8 months after last post

"Don't necropost" is a widely known, oft-unwritten forum rule, not just for this forum but for basically every other forum on the internet. It's pointless to revive this thread as it just brings up old discussions that aren't relevant anymore. It's irritating.
