A few people, such as Tarby, Senator, Overk, etc have been asking me how to make twelve tone music...so I wrote a guide for everyone!

https://docs.google.com/document/d/140c ... C5x3Y/edit

Go nuts! I hope it's somewhat useful and maybe we'll see some twelve-tone stuff showing up around here! (nah)

Awesome guide =) I love the way you've made it into somewhat of a story whilst you explain; it makes this VERY easy to read :D. Derpy always makes learning more fun.
Thanks for taking the time to do this ^_^

Also: BAWW you changed your avatar D: Goodbye epic concentration face.
Although I have to admit that steampunk twi is a work of art.

Does the tone row always have to be so rhythmically uninteresting? All the examples you posted had the lengths of the notes in the tone row being pretty close to the same... Can you mix up the rhythm/duration of them, or is that NOT ALLOWED!?!

Also, Dmitri Shostakovich said that all twelve-tone music sounds the same (I'm paraphrasing, and it was a YouTube comment, so I could be totally wrong yeah...) What are your thoughts on this?

got me thinking of this:Image

If we don't have anything we can substract, how can we be creative with it?

Oh, well, I kept the rhythm the same because it made it easier to see what I was talking about!
Rhythm can be anything you want...
OR if you're really fancy, you could use your row to define the rhythm too! :P

And Shostakovich's quote...well, listen to the two different examples I used in the guide...do they sound the same?

Thank you! I skimmed through and it was excellent. Derpy really helped with my comprehension, good idea. I didn't have time to do it justice, but I downloaded so I can read at greater depth.
