Legal Audio Software -- For Free

In the interest of all the ponies being able to develop and share music in a legal way, it would be unethical of me not to mention the best way to get started.

Whether you are aware or not, alternative Operating Systems such as GNU/Linux (commonly known as Android, Ubuntu, etc.) are Free ($0) and Free (no licenses, no restrictions on distribution provided a few rules are adhered to).

It's different than what many are used to (the Windows OS, Mac OS-X), so expect there to be a learning curve.
However, once that's dealt with, you have a near unlimited arsenol of quality free and legal software.

I recommend getting the OS here:
http://www.linuxmint.com/download.php

then going to the software install application and searching for the stuff in the links and installing it. I am a resource for those interested in getting started this way.

You can get started on any OS for free really, you just need to hunt down the good stuff.
I've compiled a ton of free programs on this list, most of which run on standard OCs such as Windows.

A real famicom? No, it's not a tracker, but you'd have to pay for the music to be TRULY 8-bit
