Can't Get My Wobbler Under Control

Postby MyLittleJosieph » 28 Dec 2011 23:37

No really, I've finally upgraded to the 1.1.5 version of Massive so now I can sync properly but I keep getting this audible "click" whenever a note ends, like it's trying to go to a phantom note or something. Maybe I'm just asking too much of the vst as I'm trying to get it to play an actual melody for the first verse and part of the chorus. As long as I don't have that many pitch changes everything seems to work smoothly. Otherwise I get a "Wub wu... Wub wu... Wub wu...". I'm new to Massive and any help would be nice. Thanks!

Try freezing and flattening whatever you're making. Then you can get rid of the click.

(but make sure to duplicate your Massive channel, first!)

I was under the impression that that click is a form of anti-piracy?

It's not so much a click as the notes seem to be trying to playing an extra note but are being cut short. Also, and this is kinda embarrassing, but I'm not quite sure what "flattening" and "freezing" mean in Massive lingo.

Aussie meant making an audio file from the midi, and it's Ableton Live lingo

^yeah pretty much. I'm sure you can do it in any DAW, though.

If you can't, instead of flattening, render it, then throw it in your DAW and get rid of the click.

I probably should have mentioned that I'm using Sonar Home Studio 4 (mostly for it's rather intuitive, if limited, staff view) and my usual style of notation makes for a lot of bass melodies, which is probably not the best for dubstep.

In the LFO that you're using for the wobble, try moving that wave around. Sometimes, you have to move it a little to the left or the right to get the best wobbles, or if you moved it too much before, that might be why it starts a new wub when you don't want it to.

Thanks for the advice everypony! Shifting the wave thingie around did help quite a bit. I'll look into the other advice you've all given me. If my computer panics and explodes I'll know who to blame! XD

Huh, I think I've come across a new issue: The bass sounds like a phaser effect was added to it whenever it exits from a pitch change. Any way around this issue?

No idea. Figure out what you changed before it happened? I'd have to hear it to really say anything.

Not sure if this will work, but under the oscillators tab in that big window with the envelopes and LFOs, click the Restart All Oscillators With Gate box. What this does is, every time a note is played, it restarts all the oscillators at the same phase, so it will sound the same every time it's played.

Thanks, everypony! That seems to have really helped! I will do some more experimenting.
